🌍 Agritech Roundup
Morocco's fresh strawberry exports fell to a multi-year low between October 2025 and April 2026, halving in volume compared to the previous season. The decline is driven by drought, rising production costs, and competition from Egypt.
The Government of Kenya has launched its $8.52 billion (KES 1.1 trillion) National Agri-food Systems Investment Plan (NASIP) 2026–2030. The program provides a financing roadmap to create two million agricultural jobs over five years.
Uganda has introduced Skeepon Technology (SKP), a plant bio-stimulant designed to trigger natural heat and water-stress tolerance mechanisms in commercial crops.
Madagascar has launched a public digital agricultural registry and three primary mobile services to manage farmer databases. Backed by the World Bank, the infrastructure will provide administrative tracking, meteorological alerts, real-time crop price indices, and digital advisory services for local smallholders.
South African billionaire Robert Gumede shared his plans to double the number of jobs in the sugar value chain. He bought Tongaat Hulett, a century-old sugar producer in South Africa that collapsed under an accounting scandal.
💸Deal Roundup
The World Bank Group has approved $1.25 billion in Development Policy Financing operations for Nigeria. This money is supposed to support structural reforms to improve broadband networks and productivity programs for 9.5 million farmers.
Côte d’Ivoire has secured a $50 million financing package from the Green Climate Fund to implement its five-year LARACI agricultural land management program.
The Botswana Investment and Trade Centre has finalised a $20.8 million (P288.5 million) joint venture between the Matopi Commercial Farmers Association and Pinion South Africa.
The African Development Bank has authorised $16 million in board funding to launch Phase III of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program.
The Irish Government has provided $3.26 million (€3 million) to support the Maziwa Faida dairy initiative in Tanzania.
📅 Ag Events and Opportunities
The World Bank GAFSP Grants has launched a new $163 million grant program. The funding is available to support climate-smart agriculture, food security, and smallholder innovation in vulnerable and low-income countries. The window closes on September 15.
